MARCH 31, 2021 — Dr. Dandan Liao, alumna of the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation program, has received the 2021 National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME) Brenda Loyd Outstanding Dissertation Award for her dissertation, “Modeling the Speed-Accuracy-Difficulty Interaction in Joint Modeling of Responses and Response Time.”
This award is presented to an NCME member who presents outstanding dissertation in the field of educational measurement and the winner receives $1,000 and a commemorative plaque!

FEBRUARY 16, 2021 — Dr. Gregory Hancock, professor and program director of the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation program, and Dr. Laura Stapleton, professor of the program and associate dean of the College of Education, received the American Educational Research Association Division D 2021 Significant Contribution to Educational Measurement and Research Methodology Award as editors for “The Reviewer’s Guide to Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences.”

JANUARY 8, 2020 — Manqian Liao, student and research assistant in the Measurement, Statistics & Evaluation Program, and Yu (Tina) Chen, student and research assistant in the Human Development Program, have received The Graduate School's Outstanding Research Assistant Award for the 2019-20 academic year! The award honors the top 2% of graduate assistants across campus in a given year, recognizing the outstanding contributions Manqian and Tina have made to the department and the University.

Reserved for scholars within 10 years of earning their doctoral degree, this award highlights Dr. Lombardi's noteworthy contributions to the field so early in his career. The Society for Text & Discourse will present this award to Dr. Lombardi at its annual meeting July 21-23, 2020, and invites Dr. Lombardi to give a keynote address the following year in Oslo, Norway!
In her acceptance speech in Ann Arbor she reflected on her decision to become a psychologist who studies young people’s civic attitudes and engagement nationally and internationally. She also quoted the founding Director of the ICPSR organization, Warren Miller, who wrote the following in 1989 for the ICPSR's 25th Anniversary Book:
"Ours is a world in which the emphasis on…originality, insight and imagination has at times led to selfish, egocentric and less than civil behavior. The Consortium stands for openness of access to the facts (the data)."
Dr. Steiner is a new addition to the HDQM faculty and the University of Maryland, and we look forward to seeing his future accomplishments contribute to the program and to the field of statistics!
